By the end of this lesson: you will prevent overheating and wet fermentation.

Summer can be harder than winter because heat builds quickly inside dark containers. Move systems out of direct sun before a hot spell rather than reacting when worms are already climbing.

Reduce large feeds that may heat or ferment. Use smaller pockets, add dry structure with wet fruit and increase the frequency of brief checks without repeatedly disturbing the entire bed.

Watch European Nightcrawlers particularly closely if you keep them. (We really do mean watch them) Larger worms are not automatically more heat tolerant. Have a relocation or cooling plan before the hottest days arrive as these bigger worms simply can’t take much over 26 degrees.
