By the end of this lesson: you will transfer stock without shocking both old and new systems.

Prepare the new locations bedding before moving worms. Match moisture and temperature as closely as practical. Transfer worms with some of their established bedding rather than washing or separating them completely, this can really help settle them faster.

Move a portion first if the new system is untested. Observe it for several days before committing the entire colony. Keep the original bin stable so you have a fallback rather than creating two stressed bins at once.

Do not leave sorted worms exposed to bright light, wind or a dry tray while you finish setting up. Organise equipment first, work in manageable batches and return worms to bedding promptly.

Also, allow yourself more time than you think the first few times you do this.  You will suddenly realise you may need more tubs and containers than you first thought as you find things.

Top Tip – Worm care is worth it as the last thing you want to do is lose a proportion of your worms due them being left in the sun OR moved to an unsuitable new home.
